New Virtues – CURIOUS AND ACTIVE – please spot this for recognition

Pupils are growing to be curious about everything; and active in their engagement with the world, changing what they can for the better.
What does this mean?
Catholic schools help their pupils grow by leading pupils to be curious about the universe and all human activity, and to take increasing responsibility for their own learning,
and by providing opportunities for them to be active in the life of the school, the Church and the wider community.

Prayer focus this week: For the sick and those that care for them – Please raise this AT LEAST ONCE during the week as part of your daily prayer routines. Many pupils will have their own worries and might like to share personal intentions,

COVID PROTOCOLS – additional guidance has been received and detailed information can be found on the website. However, here is an overview of the changes and some reminders:

Headlines (New = red)

Visitors

Visitors protocol – ONLY regular visitors (i.e Music School, Soccer 2000, College placements), those whose service is vital to learning or well being of pupils (i.e. EP) or school improvement are invited into school and have to have LFT tested, wear a mask as per staff and provide track and trace information. They must inform the school if they have tested positive for up to 10 days after visit.

Visitors to the school office must wear a mask. Parents directed to communicate via phone and email rather than visiting office wherever possible.

Testing

If you test positive on an LFT then isolation starts immediately and no PCR follow-up is required, IF YOU ARE ASYMPTOMATIC. If you are SYMPTOMATIC then a PCR is also advised.

Staff and pupils return to school from day 7 if they had a negative LFT on both days. Pupils are asked to continue LTF testing on day 8, 9 and 10 if they return at this earlier stage.

Staff isolating but well enough to do so are expected to work from home.

If you have been a close contact of someone who is positive and are at least double vaccinated, you do not isolate. Instead LFT test for 7 days.

Absence not Covid related – if a child (or adult) is off with illness other than Covid, they should LFT test negative before their return. If they do not test, they will not be able to return until 48 hours after feeling well.

LFT tests CAN now be taken if you have had Covid in the last 90 days.

Ventilation

If CO2 monitors are demonstrating a concern with your class ventilation that is not solved through intermittent door opening, or the solution makes learning untenable, inform TD as a mechanical ventilation system may be required.

Residential visits

Residential visits can take place as long as Risk Assessments are agreed by MAC. Parents are expected to be able to collect their child if there are any concerns of illness.

Maintaining hygiene

Systems and procedures must remain in place for maintaining hygiene, including hand washing and the provision of an isolation space. This means that the JC room remains out of use (unless discussed with TD/MB) and the disabled toilet remains the Covid space (this CAN be used for dealing with toileting accidents as this also involves cleaning procedures but MUST NOT be used by staff members – STAFF TOILET ONLY PLEASE). This is so that you are not touching uncleaned, contaminated surfaces.

Masks

Masks remain an essential protective measure. It remains staff choice if they wear them in classrooms but they MUST be worn in communal areas and corridors. Social distancing also remains important and meeting will be scheduled with this in mind. Young pupils should not be wearing masks however Y5/6 pupils could chose to do so.

Outdoor games in cold weather:

Pupils can wear additional base layers, they can wear a hat during PE as long as it is secure and they can also wear a school fleece over the top of their cardigan. Unfortunately, wearing a coat does not work as it restricts the movement that they need to have in games.

Tuesday 11.1.22 VM out

Please be aware, when there is a covid positive case in your class (Teachers are informed via email) then we are sending out an information letter to parents advising them to LFT for 7 days as a LIKELY close contact. As staff in the room, you can determine if you also class as a close contact and can also test daily rather than 2x per week. We have chosen to do this in the absence of track and trace informing children when they have been a close contact. It is an additional safety measure rather than an increased level of concern. See the letter attached which is amended for classes/case dates. Daily LFD test example
